After a suggestion from Charlie at Willow Hedgehog Rescue via Twitter I decided to tweak one of my pond hedgehog ramps.
You may have read one of my earlier posts about providing water for wildlife during this hot weather that included a suggestion about using chicken wire to make a ramp in ponds with sides that don’t lend themselves to using bricks or logs. When I first used the chicken wire I considered the possibility of a hedgehog getting it’s leg caught but thought the risk of this happening was outweighed by the chance of preventing the hog from drowning.
Charlie suggested the simple idea of weaving some sticks etc. through the mesh to minimise the risk to the hogs further. Why didn’t I think of this!
So, after five minutes collecting materials I got weaving. You can see the before and after photos below.
