Project Description

Make A Hanging Bird Table Using Party Plates

Suitable For: Age (10+)   Time Needed: 15 Minutes

What You Need: (x2) Plastic party plates (one large and one small), a few screws and washers and a piece of scrap timber approx. 150mm long

Tools Required: Handsaw, Screwdriver

In this ‘How To’ guide I’ll show you how to make a simple bird feeder out of two party plates and a piece of scrap timber.

Very easy to make and the birds will love it!

Step 1

Collect all your materials

This is a very simple project and its possible you have all the items you need in your garden and kitchen cupboard! I used a plastic party bowl for the seed tray and a slightly larger plastic party tray for the roof. Unfortunately I didn’t have any party trays in the cupboard so I picked up a pack of 10 square plastic bowls and a pack of 3 rectangular plastic trays for £1 a pack from Poundland. Enough to build three bird feeders and still have plenty of bowls left over for ice cream to celebrate finishing the project! I also used a length (150mm) of 50mm x 50mm timber I had saved from a previous project.

Step 2

Put it all together

You can see from the photo above how to construct the feeder. I used two screws top and bottom to fix the tray and roof to the centre timber post. I then added a screwed hook to the top to make it nice and easy to hang.

The only thing left to do is to hang the feeder, fill it with bird seed and wait for your feathered diners to arrive!
