Make A Hanging Bird Feeder 2016-10-27T21:10:20+00:00

Project Description

Make A Hanging Bird Table

Suitable For: Age (10+)   Time Needed: 20 Minutes

What You Need: (x1) Plastic party tray, (x4) fizzy drink bottles, a few screws, and washers and a piece of scrap timber approx. 150mm long

Tools Required: Handsaw, Screwdriver, Scissors

In this ‘How To’ guide I’ll show you how to make a simple hanging bird feeder out of the bases from four fizzy drinks bottles, a party plate and a piece of scrap timber.

Very easy to make and the birds will love it!

Step 1

Collect all your materials

This is a very simple project and its possible you have all the items you need in your garden and kitchen cupboard! I used the bases of four 2lt fizzy drinks bottles and a plastic party tray for the roof. Unfortunately I didn’t have any party trays in the cupboard so I picked up a pack of 3 rectangular plastic trays for £1 a pack from Poundland. Enough to build three bird feeders! I also used a length (150mm) of 50mm x 50mm timber I had saved from a previous project.

Don’t throw away the remaining parts of the four fizzy drinks bottles as you will be able to use them in some of my other projects!

Step 2

Put it all together

You can see from the photo above how to construct the feeder. I used two screws and washers to fix the roof tray to the timber post. I then added a screwed hook to the top to make it nice and easy to hang. The seed bowls are attached using a screw and washer too.

The only thing left to do is to hang the feeder, fill it with bird seed and wait for your feathered diners to arrive!
