Suitable For: Age (12+)

Time Needed: 15 mins

Why Do it?: Providing food for garden birds is a great way to help wildlife in your garden.

What you Need: Festive snack tray, plastic picnic plate, string, drinking straws

Tools Required: Scissors and Hand Drill

How To Guide

This hanging bird table provides a great way to feed the birds in your garden. The Christmas snack tray adds a lovely festive twist. A great project to do with young children adding a little extra #WildTime into their day!

Collect your materials

Collect all your materials together. I found the festive snack plate and the plastic picnic plate in the local discount store for £1 each!

Drill four holes in the snack tray and the picnic plate

Apologies! I forgot to take a photo of this stage. Drill four 4mm diameter holes equally spaced around the edge of both the snack tray and the picnic plate. Check out the photo of the finished bird table as a guide if you need to.

Create your spacers

I used four drinking straws to act as spacers between the snack tray base and the picnic plate roof. I found that cutting the straws just under the bendy part left the perfect length.

Putting it all together!

I then used two lengths of string (approx. 800mm each) and passed the ends of each piece up through the holes in the snack tray, through the straws, through the picnic plate and then tied the ends together to create the hanging loop.

All that’s left to do is hang it in a tree, fill it with bird seed and wait for the birds to arrive!
