Location: Blue House Farm Nature Reserve – Essex, UK
About This Webcam:[custom_frame_left shadow=”on”][/custom_frame_left] The stars of this webcam are a pair of Barn Owls called Packham and Strachen and yes, you guessed it, they are named after BBC Springwatch presenters Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan. In 2013 the pair (of owls, not presenters!) successfully raised three owlets for the second year running.
They breed in a barn at the Blue House Farm nature reserve in North Fambridge.
Blue House Farm is perfect for Barn Owls. The reserve’s coastal meadows, alongside the River Crouch, are ideal hunting grounds for the Owls as there is a good population of Short-tailed Field Voles, which are the favourite prey of Barn Owls.
With A Little Help From Wildlife Gadgetman…
I was thrilled to help with the set up of the webcam system and live streaming and continue to keep an eye on activity daily. At this time of year you’ll see one or both Barn Owls roosting in the box during the day leaving in the early evening for a night of hunting.
